Football Ontario Unveils 2023 Team Ontario Male Flag Pathways

Football Ontario Announces the High-Performance Pathway for Male Flag

Hamilton, Ontario – Football Ontario has officially unveiled the High-Performance Pathway for the 2023 Team Ontario Male Flag Program. Football Ontario is excited to announce that the program is to be led by returning HC/GM Jason Hayes.

“Team Ontario Flag Football is excited to continue to grow our flag football program.  We look forward to returning many players who played in 2022 and expect a number of quality new players to be added to our High-Performance Program.  Our teams are excited to improve on a number of silver medals won during last year’s National championships.” says Coach Hayes, HC/GM of the Team Ontario Male Flag Program.

The Pathway will consist of Four Phases at the SR (18+) level and Three Phases at the U16 (2008/2009), U18 (2006/2007), and U20 (2004/2005) age levels.

For the SR Level (18+), Phase One will begin with an Identification Camp which will serve as a Tryout/Practice for the SR Men on February 4 at York University. The camp will take place from 1pm – 3pm. The camp will cost $44.99 plus a 2023 Football Ontario High-Performance Membership.

The following phase will be an optional phase at all age levels. In the spring, throughout the province there will be Football Ontario sanctioned Regional Tournaments. These will serve as testing grounds for teams and the winning team will be granted 50% off their 5-a-Side Flag Provincial Championship Tournament registration fee. Stay tuned for more information on Regional Tournaments to be held in the coming months.

The next phase is the 5-a-Side Flag Provincial Championships powered by UA Flag. To attend provincials a club must be a registered member of Football Ontario. The Provincial Championships will be held in Georgetown, ON the weekend of June 3-4.

At the U16, U18, and U20 age groups, the winning team at the Provincial Championships will be granted the opportunity to represent Team Ontario at Nationals in the summer of 2023 which is the final stage of the 2023 Male Flag High-Performance Pathway.

At the SR level, Coach Hayes will be putting together two teams based upon the Identification Camps and performance at Provincials to attend the CFFL Nationals.

Football Canada will be releasing more information on the National Flag Event Schedule in the coming months.

“2022 under the lead of Coach Hayes saw significant growth in our Men’s flag programing. We are looking forward to building off of that success from U16 all the way to our Senior programs.” says Football Ontario’s Executive Director, Aaron Geisler

Football Ontario hopes to improve upon the successes from the 2022 Male Flag High-Performance year in which the organization saw Team Ontario capture Silver in all three of the events that it entered.
