Flag football is rapidly growing in Ontario, with programming at the grassroots, regional, provincial, and collegiate level. Flag football is for everyone and as an Olympic Sport in the 5v5 game, the opportunities are endless!

Flag in schools - NFL CANADA

INFORMATION

The NFL FLAG In-Schools Program aims to increase physical activity of youth by providing flag football resources to underserved communities. These resources can be used in physical education classes, at recess, for intramurals, and in tournaments.

With this initiative, Football Ontario and NFL Canada hope to introduce more young athletes and fans to the game of football, in an accessible, fun, fast-paced and inclusive format. The ultimate goal of this process is to create more opportunities and long-lasting programs at schools across the province.

Divisions

Football Canada offers an Elite (provincial teams only) and Elite Club or Open Club divisions

Football Ontario offers Team Ontario (provincial team) and Open Club divisions in provincial events.

Flag Membership in Ontario may offer more age groups and divisions that are provided at the National and Provincial levels. Please review membership programming for information.

Adult Flag Circuit Presented by the Detroit Lions

Football Ontario partnered with the Detroit Lions are committed to expanding flag football across the province. This collaboration provides athletes with unique opportunities to connect with the National Football League (NFL) and the Detroit Lions, reinforcing the club’s dedication to growing the sport and fostering stronger community engagement.

The Adult Flag Football Circuit, open to both Canadian and U.S. collegiate programs and community competitive teams, features divisions for adult men and women at the highest level of competition.

Ontario Elite Flag (OEF)

The newly developed Ontario Elite Flag League features divisions across Ontario that hosts club teams in a league competition format. Usually taking place in the fall, this league will host various divisions across Ontario.

Two styles of play will be offered – 5v5 Flag and 7v7 Flag.

Currently, the South Eastern Divisions hosted by the Burlington Stampeders launches Fall 2025.

Collegiate flag is growing!

The Ontario Women’s Intercollegiate Football Association (OWIFA) consists of over 500 athletes and 70+ coaches that participate in women’s flag football programs at 15 institutions across Ontario.

ROAD TO ELITE & CLUB NATIONALS

A pathway for men and women from ages 10-18+ in 5v5 Flag Football aligned with Football Canada.

OPTION 1:  Club/Association ———-> Open Provincials ————-> Club Nationals ————> Team Canada Identification

OPTION 2: Individual Athletes ———-> Team Ontario ————-> Elite Nationals ————> Team Canada Identification

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE FOR CLUB NATIONALS?

– Must be a member of Football Ontario either through your association or individual team registration by signing up all players and coaches into the National Registry.

– Must attend Club Provincials to qualify and earn a seed in Club Nationals.

The Flag High-Performance Season includes U14,U16, U18, and U19 Men/Boys and Women/Girls Flag teams for a total of 8 Team Ontario Flag teams.

The Identification and Selection process will consist of three phases that take place from September-April and lead to the selections of the teams that will participate in the Football Canada Elite Flag National Championships hosted each year.

HAMILTON REGISTRATION – SEPTEMBER 14 @ HAMILTON STADIUM

Football Canada is excited to announce the 2026 Football Canada Elite Flag Nationals as a part of the 2026 Football Canada Flag Championship Series. The Elite Flag Nationals will play host to the elite provincial teams from across Canada.

The event is open to spectators and fans.

 

High School Flag Provincials - June 2nd, 2026

Location: McMaster University

EVENT PACKAGE

Football Ontario is excited to host High School 5v5 Flag Provincials for women’s and girls’ teams across Ontario. This is the second year of the event, and hosted at McMaster University.

Registration is first-come first-serve with preference for at least 3 high schools represented from each secondary athletic association.

Club Nationals - July 31st - August 2nd, 2026

Football Canada is excited to announce the 2026 Football Canada Club Flag Nationals as a part of the 2026 Football Canada Flag Championship Series. The Club Flag Nationals will be over the course of a single weekend.

 

Did you know that registration for the 2026 Club Flag Nationals opened on February 9th, and we INVITE YOU to attend this year!?
Location: The event will be held at Millennium Sports Park in Ottawa from July 31 to August 2. Competition will begin on July 31st, paired with the combine.
BONUS: We are working to confirm field availability with the Ottawa RedBlacks at TD Place, but it looks like we will be running some programming/games at TD Place in the afternoon on Friday, July 31.
More information: All information and updates will be shared directly with your Provincial Football Organization (Ex, Football Saskatchewan, Football BC, Football PEI, Football Quebec, Football New Brunswick, Football Nova Scotia, Football Manitoba, Football Alberta, Football Ontario). Please contact them directly about your eligibility. NOTE: Your team must be a member of your province’s PSO to participate in the tournament. Non-members will not be permitted to take part in the tournament.
Divisions: U14M/F, U16M/F, U18M/F, U19M/F
How do you qualify?
You must connect with your Provincial Football Organization to determine how you qualify. Examples from some provinces include the following:
  • Attend a Provincial tournament
  • Attend a Provincial tournament and place in a top 1, 2, or 3 spot
  • Open registration for club teams from a province
**We will verify with Provincial Football Organizations on whether teams are eligible.

Ontario Summer Games - July 31st to August 1st, 2026

Teams qualify for this event by attending Club Provincials at the U17 age division the year before the games. Teams must finish first in their respective regions: Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest, GTA East, and GTA West. This is determined at the end of the tournament.

Location: Waterloo, ON – includes meals and overnight stay for qualifying teams.
