Football Ontario Announces John Parkes as Head Coach for Team Ontario Seninor Women’s Tackle
Hamilton, Ontario – Football Ontario, the provincial governing body for football in Ontario, is proud to announce the hiring of John Parkes, Head Coach for Team Ontario Senior Women’s Tackle.
For the first time, Football Ontario is developing a Sr Women’s Tackle team to compete at the Football Canada National Championship. The tournament is expected to be a 12 v 12 competition, taking place in summer 2025. As a part of this new pathway, Football Ontario seeks to develop senior women’s tackle regional teams to compete ahead of the national tournament. This provides senior women’s athletes the opportunity to compete in a National Championship, develop their athletic talents among the top athletes in the country, and forge a path for other women and girls in sport.
Coach Parkes is currently the Team Ontario U14 Men’s Tacke Head Coach. Parkes has 20+ years of coaching experience at various levels of minor and varsity football across the province. This includes 6 years of Usports experience at McMaster University in Hamilton Ontario. During his time at McMaster, Parkes was the Recruiting Coordinator, Offensive Coordinator and Director of Football Operations. In 2019 as the Running Backs Coach and Recruiting Coordinator he was a part of the McMaster Marauders winning their 8th Yates Cup.
Parkes served as the Offensive Coordinator for Team Ontario’s U18 Women’s Tackle Program from 2022-2023. Coach Parkes supported Team Red to a bronze medal finish in the Harlow Division, at the National Championship in Ottawa. In 2019 he was an Assistant Coach for the Team Ontario U16 Male Tackle team during the Eastern Challenge in Kingston, Ontario which saw Team Ontario finish with a silver medal.
“I am driven towards establishing a pathway of support for athletes across the province. This opportunity gives me a chance to help grow the sport of football, as we expand our community. I am looking to build a coaching staff who will help me develop for the future and focus on the present,” says Head Coach John Parkes.
“We are incredibly excited to begin working alongside Coach Parkes and our Senior Women’s Tackle Committee to develop this program and pathway for women in Ontario. We are eager to provide new opportunities to women aged 18+, to continue their playing career, or potentially see women play tackle football for the first time. We are looking forward to collaborating with our partners across the province to bring this senior women’s vision to life, and to see these athletes represent the province on the national stage in 2025,” says Emily Todd, Director of Development and Administration.
Football Ontario looks forward to Coach Parkes providing his talent and experience to lead the first ever Team Ontario Sr Women’s Tackle program and players to success during the 2025 season.
