Coach Carlie Manners is a devoted advocate for women’s tackle football in Ontario. She began playing tackle football on the Eastern Commerce CI men’s team in 2009 and has since continued playing in the Maritimes Women’s Football League and the Central Canadian Women’s Football League. Coming from a diverse sporting background as a competitive softball player and USports basketball athlete, Carlie brings a unique perspective to coaching women’s football.
In 2022, Carlie was the co-head coach and offensive coordinator of the York Region Lions’ inaugural U18 women’s tackle program. In the fall of 2023, she joined the Peel Panthers U19 women’s staff as the offensive line coach, supporting the team to a commendable 2nd place finish in the provincial championships. Carlie will be returning to Team Ontario for her second season in 2024. Last summer, Carlie served as the offensive line coach for Team Ontario Red, which claimed Bronze at Nationals, placing 3rd in the Harlow division.
“I’m incredibly excited and honoured to have been selected. This program is so close to my heart, and having this opportunity to lead this team to Calgary is not one that I take lightly. Over the past four years we’ve seen U18/U19 women’s tackle explode across the province. Now, in the third year of this program, we’re going to see athletes attending ID camps with more experience, passion, and dedication to this sport than ever before. I look forward to being ALL IN with them and the coaching staff.” says Head Coach, Carlie Manners.
Coach Manners will work closely with Football Ontario and the Football Ontario High-Performance Committee in order to create and implement a plan to help continue to grow and develop the Team Ontario U18 Women’s Tackle Program.
“I’m incredibly excited to announce Carlie Manners as the head coach for our u18 women’s tackle program. I am confident that with Her passion and expertise, she will bring this program to new heights in 2024.” says Emily Todd, the Director of Development and Administration with Football Ontario.
Coach Manners will play an integral part in identifying, developing, and preparing high-performance athletes and coaches alongside the High-Performance Committee in order to be best prepared for the 2024 Women’s Tackle National Championship in Calgary as the organization strives to achieve Gold.
Football Ontario is excited to have Coach Manners at the helm of the Team Ontario U18 Women’s Tackle Program and look forward to her success and the continued growth of the program.
