Football Ontario Announces 2023 Intercollegiate 5-a-side Flag Provincial Championships Location and Date

Hamilton, Ontario – Football Ontario is excited to announce the 2023 Football Ontario Women’s Intercollegiate 5-a-Side Flag Provincial Championship will be held on April 2, 2023 from 9am – 7pm ET.

Football Ontario and OWIFA will be partnering with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on the execution of this event and the entire tournament will be held at their stadium, Tim Hortons Field, in Hamilton, ON. There will be no admission charge for those who wish to come and watch.

This event will play host to a multitude of different teams from all across the province competing for the provincial championship. The top teams will look to earn their spot at the Football Canada Collegiate Championship in 2023, with the top three teams in the provincial tournament advancing to Nationals.

The entry fee for the tournament will be set at $400 per team. To register for this event all players must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution for the 2022/23 academic year. Roster sizes will have a maximum of 15 players and a minimum of 7 players. Spots will be on a first come first serve basis.

The teams in attendance will be split into different pools, these teams will all face off through the round robin and playoff to decide a champion in three tiered playoffs. Each team will play a minimum of three pool games.

“Year two of the Football Ontario 5-a-side collegiate championship is around the corner and it’s the best avenue for our athletes to earn a ticket to a national championship and a Team Ontario and Team Canada spot. OWIFA expanded our 5-a-side game with a Fall season, better preparing our top teams for the Canadian Collegiate Championship at Carleton in May. The growth of Ontario collegiate football is massive: 500+ athletes and coaches plus 2000 friends and families attending or watching our events online. Plus, we are growing adding on programs from the Niagara and Ottawa region. Our athletes, coaches and officials are the heart of our program, who should be commended for showcasing the best athletes at each of their institutions!” says Olivia Ghosh-Swaby, Executive Director of OWIFA.

Both Flag Football and Women’s Football are a quickly developing part of the football landscape in the province and Football Ontario is incredibly excited to showcase some of the top teams and talent that the province has to offer.
