Football Ontario to Hold Several NCCP Workshops

Football Ontario to Hold Community Sport and Safe Contact Workshops in February and March

Hamilton, Ontario – Starting in February, 2023, Football Ontario will host several NCCP Workshops in order for coaches across the province to become certified. These workshops will be held virtually over Zoom and will consist of both Community Sport Workshops and Safe Contact Workshops.

The Community Sport Workshops will be held on:

  • February 12, 2023 (9am-5pm EST)
  • March 4, 2022 (9am-5pm EST) 

The Community Sport Workshops will be $50 for members ($15 Virtual Member Discount) and $130 for non-members.

Community Sport Training is designed for coaches who are currently coaching athletes aged 6 – 13 in contact or non-contact football. The online E-learning course must be completed before in-person training. The Community Sport Training is a 1 day clinic that is required for anyone coaching athletes under the age of 14. The community novice coach has 6 modules:

  • Participant needs & parents’ expectations
  • Understanding the game
  • Make ethical decisions
  • Safety
  • Fundamental movement skills
  • Practice Planning
  • Football specific fundamental skills\

Mandatory E-learning Course

The Safe Contact Workshops will be held on: 

  • February 9, 2023 (6pm-10pm EST)
  • March 22, 2023 (6pm-10pm EST)

The Safe Contact Workshops will be $50 for members ($25 Virtual Members Discount) and $150 for non-members.

An integral part of Football Canada’s National Coaching Certification Program, Safe Contact teaches safe tackling and blocking techniques along with safety education and awareness. Every football player needs to be able to perform the football fundamentals taught in Safe Contact, regardless of what position they play on the field. Safe Contact is a 1 day clinic in class and on-field that is required for all coaches.

As a reminder, per Football Canada, NCCP Safe Contact certification is good for five years. After this five year period a coach will need recertification.
