Football Ontario Announces OFOA as Official Member

Football Ontario Welcomes the Ontario Football Officials Association as the Newest Member

Hamilton, Ontario – Football Ontario is thrilled to welcome the Ontario Football Officials Association (OFOA) as an official member of Football Ontario. Together, Football Ontario and OFOA will work together in order to promote collaboration, alignment and growth of football officiating systems across the province.

“The OFOA is pleased to become a member of Football Ontario and contribute to the growth and development of football throughout the province. We view this relationship as a positive step that can only enhance this great game. Officials are sometimes forgotten participants in the football community. This partnership recognizes the vital role they play, and reinforces the need for their continued recruitment and training. The OFOA looks forward to this new partnership!” says Don Carmichael, President of the Ontario Football Officials Association.

Football Ontario has also received a $48 600 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation which will be used in the recruitment and development of officials across the province. The goal of the grant is to create a stronger foundation for officiating in the province by helping new and more diverse participants access to officiating opportunities. The pandemic has caused damage to both the recruitment and training pathways for officials and this grant will be used to both attract new officials as well as ensure they receive proper training.

This grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will help Football Ontario and the OFOA ensure communities will have access to officials as well as ensuring that every official across the province is able to be supported in their development.

Football Ontario is committed to working with all of our members and the entire provincial football community to reduce all barriers to participate. Football Ontario places the wellness for all participants, coaches, and referees at the forefront and this grant will help the organization with this.

“The continued growth of our game across the province hinges on providing a safe and engaging environment for officials to be an equal part in the game. Having the OFOA and its associations as full members of Football Ontario helps to align stakeholders to getting new and more diverse officials as well as helps to create greater collaboration between all participants on the field. We look forward to working with the OFOA and utilizing the support of the Trillium grant to grow the officiating ranks in Ontario.” says Aaron Geisler Executive Director Football Ontario

The main mission of this partnership is to grow, promote, and provide equitable development opportunities in football for all officials across the province. Through this Football Ontario hopes to provide a more diverse and inclusive sporting experience that encourages leadership development and positive physical and mental health through the sport of football.

Football Ontario is committed to partnerships that aim to achieve the highest programming standards and the organization believes that by partnering and working together, the development in both the quantity and quality of officiating will be accelerated across the province. The organization is looking forward to an enduring partnership.
