Red-Black Weekend to be held at Western University on May 14-15 Weekend

Hamilton, Ontario – Football Ontario has officially unveiled the date and location of Phase 3 of the Team Ontario Male Tackle Program; Red-Black Weekend. The event will be held at Western University in London, ON and will be hosted by the Western Mustangs football program and local community partners the London JR Mustangs, London Beefeaters and Forest City Thunderbird.

Red-Black Weekend will take place the weekend of May 14 and 15, following the Team Ontario Male Tackle Development Camps in the GTA.

“The Western Sports & Recreation department is excited to host the 2022 Team Ontario Red-Black weekend. To have the top U18, U16, and U14 players in Ontario play on our newly upgraded field at Western Alumni Stadium is very exciting.” said Christine Stapleton Western Director, Sport & Recreation. “Football has a strong and deep tradition here at Western and having the future of the game experience our campus and our Mustangs program is something we are looking forward to.”

The Football Ontario Top 90 will be selected by the coaching staff and general managers at the U14, U16, and U18 age lebel. The Football Ontario Top 90 (x3) will be personally invited by Football Ontario to one of the largest recruiting events in Ontario with OUA/CJFL/U Sports coaches all in attendance.

Players will go through a mini-camp followed by the Red v Black game that will be filmed and streamed live on the Official Football Ontario YouTube Channel.

“As a staff we are extremely excited about the 2022 Red Black Event being hosted at the University of Western.  Whenever you can assemble the top 90 football players in the province at one competitive venue, the opportunities for development and success are unlimited.  For the athletes it will be a snapshot of what to expect at the Canada Cup. For the coaches it’s a chance to get early eyes on the recruit classes of 2023 and 2024. Just being able to compete at this event is a tremendous accomplishment.” says Rob Underill, Head Coach of the U18 Team Ontario Male Tackle program.

Red-Black weekend is the final process of the evaluation and selection process for the Team Ontario Male Tackle program. Following the event, the Team Ontario coaches will make their final decisions and the Football Ontario Top 40 will be selected to take part in the Canada Cup in Kelowna, BC (U18) and the Eastern Regional Challenge in Sackville, NB (U16).
