Football Ontario Unveils Team Ontario U18 Women’s Road Map

Football Ontario Announces Road Map for the 2022 U18 Women’s High Performance Program

Hamilton, Ontario – Football Ontario has officially unveiled the Road Map for the 2022 U18 Women’s Team Ontario Program. For the 2022 football year, Football Ontario will be sending a U18 Women’s Provincial Team to the National Championships in Regina.

The Identification and Selection process will consist of four phases that will take place from February-June and lead to the selection of the team that will participate in the Football Canada U18 Women’s National Championship in Regina  (June 29 – July 8).

“The Team Ontario staff is excited to be able to share the roadmap for the 2022 U18 Women’s program. We believe this roadmap will serve to provide a superior pathway for young women who wish to develop as tackle football players and prepare to ascend to high levels of play. As a staff, we continue to seek opportunities to build on the foundation of this roadmap with new features and sessions and we are sure that those who participate will find it valuable.” says Mark Ouellet, Head Coach of the U18 Women’s Team Ontario program.

The Intro Phase will take place in February and will consist of virtual events. It will consist of an Information Session (virtual), a Women to Women, Experiences in Sport Panel (virtual) and a Next Play Mentality Session (virtual).

The Information Session will be held on February 2, 2022 over Zoom from 6:30-7:30pm EST. The session will be for any woman interested in the program. During the session they will be introduced to the coaching staff, learn about the Identification Camp and Development Camp process, as well as learn about the Championships and go over costs in relation to being a member of the program.

The Women to Women, Experience in Sport Panel, will be held on February 9, 2022 over Zoom. This experience will allow young women to connect with women in sports and learn about their experiences and how being a part of a program such as Team Ontario can be beneficial for them. This session will be available to any youth players who wish to participate and is not limited to Team Ontario prospects.

The Next Play Mentality Session will be held over Zoom with a date TBD.

Phase One will be held virtually with dates TBD. It will consist of two separate virtual sessions, each with a different focus. The first session will focus on High Performance Offensive Fundamentals. The second session will focus on High Performance Defensive Fundamentals.

Phase Two will take place in May with Football Ontario Identification Camps. There will be a total of three camps held across the province with a GTA Camp, an Ottawa Camp, and a South Western Camp with official dates TBD. Players will have the opportunity to pay a one time fee to attend any or as many of the camps as they wish. The players may use these camps as a way to declare their intent on making the Team Ontario program, be identified, or simply further develop and hone their skills with the great coaching that will be available.

Phase Three will take place in June with a Team Ontario Development Camp to be held in the Durham Region with a date TBD. The top candidates from the Identification Camps will be selected to attend this event.

The Team Ontario Development Camp will consist of a 5-6 hour session that will consist of skills, drills, theory and competition with the Team Ontario coaches.

Following these three phases the final U18 Women’s Team Ontario roster will be named and selected to take part in the Football Canada U18 Women’s National Championship being held in Regina  (June 29 – July 8). To view the entire national championship schedule CLICK HERE.

This brings us one step closer to achieving Football Ontario’s mission to provide football for all” said JT Tsui, Director of Sport for Football Ontario when he was asked about the Road Map.

Football Ontario is excited to have the opportunity to travel to the National Championships in 2022 and lead a successful Team Ontario Women’s program in order to showcase all the talent the province has to offer.
