Football Ontario Announces Olivia Ghosh-Swaby as New Manager of Flag Development

Football Ontario Brings on Manager of Flag Development

Hamilton, Ontario – Football Ontario, the provincial governing body for football in Ontario, is proud to announce the hiring of Olivia Ghosh-Swaby as the organization’s Manager of Flag Development. She will be transitioning into this role over the next few months as she completes her PhD.

Olivia has been a multisport athlete throughout her university career, including track and field, flag-football, and volleyball. She is a young advocate for women in sport, particularly women’s flag-football at universities across Ontario. In 2018, Olivia started an association and league for women’s football at Ontario universities and colleges. The league has grown to include over 500 athletes, 70 coaches, and 10 university teams participating. She has garnered the support of NFL Canada and MLSE in her time growing women’s flag football.

Additionally, she sits on Football Canada’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee for women and BIPOC athletes and previously sat on their Non-Contact Flag Football committee. She has supported various high school, youth and adult flag and touch programs including a regional program in London, ON as well. She has learned about the obstacles and challenges that come with being a leader in women’s sport, starting a league, and convincing members of the sports community to invest in flag football. She has a unique perspective that will allow her to champion and lead the growth of flag football across the province.

“Flag football has been a passion of mine throughout my university career both as an administrator, athlete, and coach. To see its exponential growth and as I wrap up my university career as an athlete, it was only fitting to find ways to grow the sport in all spaces. My mission is to unite flag football across this province, increase the number of youth playing flag football, and develop more pathways for adults to remain active throughout their lifetime. Flag football is an opportunity to build and unite communities at the recreational and high-performance level. I can’t wait to be a part of it and to support and prioritize those in this space. Flag is the future.” says Olivia.

Olivia will play a pivotal role in the strategic development and implementation of Flag Football programs throughout Ontario. With the aim of enhancing the growth and sustainability of flag football across the province.

As a part of her role, Olivia will oversee key flag football events across the province such as the Summer Games Tour, Provincial Championships, as well as National Championships that are hosted in Ontario. She will also be supporting Team Ontario flag programming ensuring its alignment and success as well as assisting with the recruitment, development, and retention of flag officials across the province.

“Olivia’s appointment as Manager of Flag Development marks an exciting moment in our commitment to expand the reach and impact of flag football across Ontario as we look towards the sports inclusion in the LA 2028 Olympics. With her passion, experience, and dedication to inclusivity, Olivia embodies the spirit of our mission of Football For All. Her leadership will create new pathways for growth, ensuring that flag football not only thrives but creates opportunities for all who wish to participate.” says Tyler McNicholl, Director of Operations for Football Ontario.
