Carleton Seeks Head Coach for Football Program – Applications Due February 6/22

Hamilton, Ontario – This position will be posted until February 6, 2022; however, the applications will be reviewed on a regular basis, with plans to begin the multi-step interview process at the end of February with an ideal start date of mid-April 2022.

Carleton University is looking for a passionate, experienced and ambitious individual for the Head Coach position of our Raven’s Football program.

About the Position

This critical leadership role is responsible for creating an environment conducive to the development of student-athletes in a University setting and lead the Varsity Program in a manner that is consistent with the values of Carleton University and in accordance with the Athletic Department’s Code of Conduct. The Head Coach is the lead spokesperson of the football program promoting and enhancing the image of Carleton Ravens football both within the university and externally.

The ideal candidate will have successful coaching experience at the USPORTS level with demonstrated success in building a successful varsity program. They will have experience developing and providing leadership to coaches and student-athletes to reach their full potential as individuals and as a team; most importantly managing the student-athletes in terms of their academics, athletics and dealing with diverse and various issues facing young adults. We are searching for a candidate with the demonstrated experience of recruiting and retaining student-athletes through passion for the sport, the university sport environment and providing inspiration to the team, the players and the community.

In addition, the Head Coach is responsible for developing and leading initiatives to engage the greater community which includes alumni and supporters.

The Head Coach, Ravens Football is a full-time 4-year contract position within the Non-Union employee group. The total compensation package includes an annual salary and competitive extended health and dental benefits, annual and sick leave, pension and unique perks such as tuition benefits.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Assistant Director, High Performance, Recreation & Athletics, the Head Coach will be responsible for building a culture of excellence and continue to build a quality Carleton University Ravens Football Program through coaching, program management, academic support, recruiting, communication and community outreach.

Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

• Expertise and accomplished football coaching at a high level such as university or college;

• Leadership experience for this type of role. Organization development and operational skills;

• Excellent communication skills;

• Experience building and managing people to reach their full potential as individuals and as a team; most importantly managing the student-athletes in terms of their academics, athletics and dealing with their personal issues – building future leaders and fine young men;

• Experience in building a successful program of this type;

• Experience working with senior management and a range of stakeholders;

• Knowledge of both the university and Canadian University sport environments and the Canadian sport system;

• Demonstrated expertise and/or knowledge in the recruitment of student athletes;

• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a part of a team;

• Integrity – a role model for students. A mentor and motivator;

• Ability to foster relationships with alumni, academic units, university staff, colleagues, students and community associations;

• Superior interpersonal skills including a strong student-athlete centered focus;

• Superior ability to listen, consult and implement decisions;

• Strong organizational and administrative skills.

Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of a university degree, the NCCP Coaching Certification Program, with a minimum of five years of coaching experience and proven success at a high performance level. Recent full-time coach experience at USPORTS level will be considered a strong asset.

If this position is required to work on campus, the successful candidate will be informed of the health and safety measures that are in place to ensure their safety on campus. If there is a requirement to work remotely (it is possible that there could be a requirement to work both remotely and on campus), the successful candidate will work with the manager to set up a remote work environment including discussing appropriate technology and requirements. Please note that once public health requirements permit, Carleton University will resume normal on campus operations and at that point there will be a timely notification provided by the manager and the requirement to working full time physically onsite will resume. Therefore, we are looking for candidates currently in or looking to relocate to the Ottawa area.

Additionally, Carleton University is continuing to maintain a safe work environment and requires mandatory vaccination against COVID-19 as per Public Health recommendations under the Reopening Ontario Act. As Carleton University requires that staff be available to attend on-campus meetings and to work, as required, in person, the successful candidate will be required to comply with this policy and be fully vaccinated before commencing employment.
