ONTARIO ELITE FLAG

Football Ontario is excited to announce the launch of a brand-new CLUB Flag League beginning in September 2025.

***Please note this is a pilot program.

This initiative is designed to provide elite-level flag football competition for CLUB athletes across the province, offering extended development opportunities while aligning with provincial and national pathways. Two formats are offered – league play or tournament play.

Divisions & Eligibility

The Elite Flag League will be open to CLUB-level teams composed of Football Ontario-registered athletes in the following divisions:

2025

  • U10 (Mixed): Born in 2016 or 2017 **
  • U12 (Mixed): Born in 2014 or 2015 **
  • U14M/F: Born in 2012 or 2013
  • U16M/F: Born in 2010 or 2011
  • U18M/F: Born in 2008 or 2009
  • U19M/F: Born in 2007 **

  • U12 (Mixed): Born in 2015 or 2016**
  • U14M/F: Born in 2013 or 2014
  • U16M/F: Born in 2011 or 2012

  • U19M/F: Born in 2008**

Each division or tournament may accommodate 6–10 teams, selected through local club nominations or regional tryouts to represent an age group. Teams can play in only one league division and/or attend multiple tournaments.

Rosters must be submitted and verified before competition.

Maximum roster size of 15 athletes + 3 coaches. 12 athletes of this roster will dressed on game day.

Objectives

The ELITE Flag League has been developed with the following goals in mind:

  • High-Performance Competition – Provide elite competition for CLUB athletes to extend their season and refine skills.
  • Pathway Alignment – Ensure athletes are actively progressing toward provincial and national identification opportunities.
  • Club Program Development – Support Football Ontario member clubs with structured competition and program exposure.
  • Coach & Official Experience – Provide certified coaches and officials with REP-level gameplay opportunities.

     

League or Tournament Format

  • League Play: Four or more event days – centralized, competitive environments
  • Tournament play: One, two, or three day tournaments – competitive environments
  • Each team plays 2+ games per event

  • Certified Football Ontario/Canada officials on all fields
  • Standings will be tracked throughout the season
  • All games will follow the Football Canada Flag Football Rulebook with the option to modify to 4 downs as per Football Canada adjustments at the Senior level

Rules & Governance

All games will follow the Football Canada Flag Football Rulebook to ensure consistency, safety, and national alignment.
Any rule modifications specific to age category or ELITE/CLUB level will be communicated before the league start.

Results

  • Division champions are determined after league or tournament play concludes.
  • Teams will earn points towards their team’s rankings heading into the subsequent year’s provincial championship.

 

Pathway (under development) – League and tournament play contribute towards provincial seedings.
