Football Ontario Announces Joe Joncas as the Next Head Coach of the Team Ontario U14 Men’s Tackle Program

Coach Joe Joncas Set to Take Over U14 Program in 2027

Hamilton, Ontario – Football Ontario is proud to announce that Joe Joncas has been selected as the next Head Coach of the Team Ontario U14 Men’s Tackle Program for the 2027 and 2028 High Performance seasons. Joncas will serve under a two-year appointment with a one-year option for the 2029 season, to be evaluated during the second year of his term.

This announcement follows a thorough recruitment and review process conducted in collaboration with current U14 Men’s Tackle Head Coach John Parkes and the Football Ontario High Performance Committee.

With Coach Parkes’ term concluding following the 2026 High Performance season, Football Ontario has structured a transition plan that reinforces continuity, learning and program excellence. Joncas will serve as a Mentee Head Coach for the 2026 season, shadowing Coach Parkes and the rest of the staff throughout the full Team Ontario cycle.

Joncas enters this role with significant experience in Football Ontario’s high performance programming. Now entering his fifth season with Team Ontario, he served as General Manager of the Men’s U18 Tackle Program from 2022 to 2024, a tenure highlighted by a national championship victory in Regina, Saskatchewan in 2024. In 2025 he joined the U14 staff as Offensive Quality Control and progressed into the Offensive Coordinator role for the current season.

His coaching background spans nearly two decades. A graduate of the University of the West of England in Sports Studies, Joncas gained extensive operational and coaching experience while serving as an Operations Assistant with McMaster University from 2019 to 2023, contributing to the 2019 Yates Cup Championship. Since 2006 he has coached across multiple levels including community, high school, rep, U Sports and within the British American Football Association in Bristol, UK.

Joncas currently serves as an Offensive Consultant for the Kemptville Jaguars with their U14 and U16 programs and also works as a personal trainer specializing in football athletes, with three of his athletes having been drafted into the CFL.

“I am thrilled to be able to lead the charge for maintaining the standard for our U14 program, giving our youngest age group the ability to learn and develop through our pathway. I plan to build upon the success of our previous Head Coaches, Coach Dan Legros and Coach John Parkes,” said Coach Joncas.

The 2026 season will serve as an important mentorship period as Coach Parkes works closely with Joncas and the High Performance Committee to ensure continuity in program delivery, athlete development, evaluation processes and the Team Ontario cultural standards that have been established over the years.

“The U14 Men’s Tackle Program is an important entry point into our Team Ontario pathway, and we are delighted to welcome Coach Joncas into this leadership role. His extensive experience, including his national championship victory with the U18 program, makes him an excellent fit to guide our youngest student-athletes. This appointment, with its focus on mentorship and a smooth transition, reinforces our commitment to continuity, program excellence, and the cultural standards that define Team Ontario. We look forward to seeing the positive impact Coach Joncas will have on the next generation of football talent in the province,” says Football Ontario’s Director of Culture and Sport, JT Tsui.

The U14 Men’s Tackle Program plays a critical role in introducing athletes to Football Ontario’s high performance pathway, preparing them for future opportunities with the U16 and U18 Team Ontario programs and ultimately the national team system.

Football Ontario congratulates Coach Joncas and looks forward to supporting him as he prepares to guide the next generation of U14 athletes on the provincial stage.
